What a private hammam is

A private hammam gives you a whole bathing room for the length of your booking. The marble, the sauna and the foam area are used by your group and nobody else.

A public hammam in Istanbul is a shared hall. Many of the historic ones split men and women into separate sections, and the staff attend to a number of guests at once.

Private or public: the practical differences

  • Who you share with: your own group, or a hall of strangers.
  • Staying together: couples and families remain in one room.
  • Pace: you set the rhythm, instead of following the crowd.
  • Extras: a massage or face mask happens in the same room.

What a session includes

The basic ritual is a warm-up in the sauna, a kese scrub and a foam wash, then a rest with something to drink. Longer programs add an oil or deep tissue massage, a face mask and a sweet or fruit plate.

What it costs

At Family Hammam the programs run from €51 to €190 per person when you reserve online, with each program page listing the regular price, the online price and what is included. The Family Suite for Two is priced per pair.
